Frank Nitsche

Frank Nitsche (1964, Görlitz, Germany) studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, Germany, between 1988 and 1993, and from 1993 to 1995 with Professor Ralph Kerbach.

He held his first solo exhibition at the Gebr. Lehmann gallery in Dresden in 1994, where his work continues to be represented. Since then his solo exhibitions include Turkish Delight, PİLEVNELİ Gallery, Istanbul (2023); Magic Tulip, Onrust Gallery, Amsterdam (2022); Backwards Ahead, Pelaires Gallery, Mallorca (2021); BLUE ACID CAMP, Brandenburgischer Kunstverein Potsdam e.V., Potsdam, Germany (2019).

Frank Nitsche paints unidentifiable but evocative geometries made up of overlapping angles, vectors and shapes. In his paintings, he collects, arranges, dismantles, recomposes and constructs in a continuous process of repainting and erasure, from which hybrid structures emerge, representing the essence of our highly aestheticised present. Nitsche's slowly worked canvases and the use of oil paints, with their soft and saturated tones, create a striking contrast with the aerodynamic and futuristic forms of reference in his compositions. He is represented in numerous museum institutions, such as the Centre Pompidou, Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris, France; Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza, A Coruña, Spain; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany; Marx Collection - Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany; MUDAM - Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, USA; Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany; MoMA - Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; Rubell Family Collection, Miami, USA; Saatchi Collection, London, UK; Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn, Germany; Städel Museum, Frankfurt, Germany; Tate Britain, London.
