Frank Nitsche

Frank Nitsche (1964, Görlitz, Germany) studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden, Germany from 1988 to 1993 and from 1993 to 1995 with Professor Ralph Kerbach (1956, Dresden, Germany, Professor of Painting at the Academy of Dresden since 1992).

He held his first solo exhibition at the Gebr. Lehmann gallery, Dresden, in 1994, where his work is still represented. Since then, several individual exhibitions stand out: Hello China, Brandenburgischer Kunstverein Potsdam e.V., Potsdam, Germany (2011); Haus am Waldsee, Berlin, Germany (2010); Frank Nitsche International, Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, Strasbourg, France (2007); Kunsthalle Vierseithof, Luckenwalde, Germany (1999).

Frank Nitsche paints unidentifiable but evocative geometries made of overlapping angles, vectors and shapes. In his paintings, he collects, arranges, disassembles, recomposes, and builds a continuous process of repainting and erasures, from which hybrid structures emerge, representing the essence of our highly esteemed present. Nitsche's slowly worked canvas and the use of oil paints, with their soft and saturated tones, create a striking contrast with the aerodynamic and futuristic reference forms of its compositions. He is represented in numerous museum institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris, France; Fundación Pedro Barrié de la Maza, A Coruña, Spain; Hamburger Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany; Marx Collection - Hamburger Bahnhof - Museum für Gegenwart, Berlin, Germany; MUDAM - Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, USA; Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany; MoMA - Museum of Modern Art, New York, USA; Rubell Family Collection, Miami, USA; Saatchi Collection, London, UK; Sammlung zeitgenössischer Kunst der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn, Germany; Städel Museum, Frankfurt, Germany; Tate Britain, London.
