The beauty of Brazilian music performed by two of its finest interpreters
Jaques Morelenbaum and Fred Martins join forces to present this new concert, brimming with the sophistication and delicacy characteristic of the great legacy of Brazilian popular music.
The show’s repertoire features songs by Tom Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes, Chico Buarque, Carlos Lyra, as well as Caymmi and Ary Barroso. Composers whose works were famously interpreted by João Gilberto’s voice and guitar and have become classics of our songbook, such as ‘Chega de Saudade’, ‘Desafinado’, ‘A Felicidade’, ‘Retrato em Branco e Preto’ and ‘Doralice’.
As a unique artistic touch, the concert also includes songs by Fred Martins that engage directly with the world of bossa nova, bringing together tradition and contemporary creation.
Morelenbaum is credited with introducing the cello to modern popular music in Brazil and worldwide, through his own projects or by performing alongside Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Egberto Gismonti, Mariza, Carminho and Sting.
Fred Martins has distinguished himself as an accomplished composer and also as a performer on vocals and guitar, creating a delicate interplay between the two elements that, in the end, sound like a single instrument.
“In this concert, we will perform several of the songs that led me to embrace music as my primary form of expression and, consequently, as a profession. They capture much of what we love most about Brazilian popular culture,” says Fred Martins.
