The Tugambique Concert is a tribute to African influence, celebrating more than 50 years of independence of the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP). The program revisits songs by Duo Ouro, Amália Rodrigues’ Barco Negro—originally titled Mãe Preta—as well as selections from fado singer Jonas’s latest album, Maçã d’Adão, a record that celebrates the richness of cultural diversity at the roots of Fado and of Portugal itself.
The concert also marks the opening of the ceramic exhibition in the MACAM chapel, featuring a new collection of collaborative works created by Barcelos ceramic artist Júlia Côta and Mozambican ceramic artist Reinata Sadimba, together with their children, Prazeres Côta and Samuel Muanconde.
Tugambique is a multidisciplinary project that builds connections between music and ceramics, creating a space for dialogue that pays tribute to the former African colonies and to the importance of African liberation movements in shaping and securing our own freedom.
