Adriana Molder
Adriana Molder (1975) was born in Lisbon, where she returned in 2019 after living and working in Berlin for thirteen years. A descendant of a family connected to the artistic field, her academic training included the course of Visual Arts in Performance Arts at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (1997) and at Ar.Co - Centro de Artes e Comunicação Visual (1998-2002), where she completed the Drawing Course, Advanced Course of Plastic Arts and Individual Project, with a scholarship for two consecutive years.
In 2003 he receives the CELPA Prize, Vieira da Silva-Artes Plásticas, Revelation; in 2004 the Scholarship for Young Creators of the National Centre of Culture, followed in 2005 by the Artist Residency in Budapest. She also obtained the João Hogan-Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Grant, and was an artist in the International Residence at Künstlerhaus Bethanic, Berlin, between 2006-2007. Her work was awarded the Herbert Zapp Prize for Young Artists, Berlin, in 2007.
Focusing on the face and using privileged sources such as the cinema, books, magazines or photos found, Alexandra Molder's work takes us into the field of portrait. Works in black tones and with occasional splashes of colour, these images are defined in the expressive process of translation between mediums. Usually drawn on sketch paper, with Indian ink, watercolour or graphite, the large-scale compositions are characterised by a translucent and contrasting quality. Composed of series, her work also integrates experiments with oil on canvas, photography and moving image.
Adriana Molder, holder of an international career, started exhibiting regularly in 2002. The most recent solo exhibitions are Die Toteninsel, Drawing Room Lisboa; Lisbon Noir, Galerie Ar-Pab; Todas as Fotografias do Ford, Travessa da Ermida; presented in 2018; and the collective Narrators of Stories, Palacio de Villadompardo, 2019; Studiolo XXI, Desenho e Afinidades, Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, 2018.
Adriana Molder's work is represented in private and institutional collections such as: Banque Privée Edmond de Rothschild; Budapest Galéria; Coleção C.G.D.; C.A.V.; Coleção António Cachola; Coleção Berardo; Fundació Sorigue; Fundación Coca-Cola; Kupferstichkabinett, Berlin; Novo Banco; PLMJ; and Union Fenosa.
