Anna Hulacová

Anna Hulačová (1984, Susice, Czech Republic) studied Sculpture and Intermedia at the Fine Arts Academy of Prague, Czech Republic, between 2006 and 2012, with professors Jaroslav Róna (1957, Prague) and Jiri Prilhoda (1966, Jihlava, Czech Republic), respectively. During this period, she attended workshops with other artists such as Magdalena Jetelová (1946, Semily, Czech Republic), Florian Rether (1967, Bruck and der Mur, Austria) and Althea Thauberger (1970, Saskatoon, Canada). Still as a student, she was a grantee of the Gray School of Art in Aberdeen, Scotland (2009), and of the Korea National University in Seoul, South Korea (2010). Between 2016 and 2018 she was assistant to professor Tomás Hlavina (1966, Decin, Czech Republic) at the Fine Arts Academy of Prague. Hulacová won several prizes, namely the Artist of the Year award, Czech Republic (2017), artist in residence at the The Albert Gleizes Foundation in Moly-Sabata, Sablons, France (2020) and at CEAAC, Strasbourg, France (2014). She’s had solo exhibitions in relevant institutions, among which: The Next Shift, Pedro Cera Gallery, Lisbon, Portugal (2021); Underworld Upside Down, Open Space#3, Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, France (2018); Graceful Ride, Kunstraum, London, United Kingdom (2018); Interpreter I. & Anna Hulacova, Hunt Kastner Gallery, Prague (2015); Second, Third and Fifth Realm, Academy of Art, Architecture and Design, Prague (2014) and Center for Contemporary Arts, Prague (2009). Hulacová’s work, evoking a series of references such as socialist sculpture, artisanal techniques, mythology and popular art, is represented in various international collections, such as: Prague City Gallery, Prague; Centre Pompidou, Paris; Kunsthalle Praha, Prague; Liberec Modern Art Gallery, Liberec, Czech Republic and East Bohemian Regional Gallery, Pardubice, Czech Republic.
