Carlos Correia

Carlos Correia was a Portuguese painter, born in Lisbon, in 1975 and he passed away in the same city, in May 2018, at the young age of 43. Correia was a revelation in his generation of Portuguese painting, having studied Plastic Arts at the Superior School of Fine Arts and Design of Caldas da Rainha and completed his masters in Visual Arts at the Évora University. He showed his work regularly since 2004, and since 2005 he was represented by Pedro Oliveira Gallery in Oporto, and since 2006 by Baginski-Galeria Projetos, in Lisbon, and since 2008 by the Fucares Gallery in Madrid. From his solo exhibitions, the following stand out: Pintura, Luísa Strina, São Paulo, 2008, Moon and Something Else, Pedro Oliveira Gallery, Oporto, 2009, Ensaio, Baginski-Galeria Projetos, Lisbon, 2010, Supervivencia, Fucares Gallery, Madrid, 2012, Le Plaisir au Dessin, Appleton Square, Lisbon, 2010, La Place du Spectateur I, News Project Space, London, 2013, La Place du Spectateur II, Baginski-Galeria Projetos, Lisbon, 2013. Correia left a body of work in various public and private collections, such as PLMJ Foundation, Engenheiro António Almeida Foundation, Teixeira de Freitas Collection, Coleccion Caja Madrid, Fundação Pedro Barrie de la Maza, the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, Deutsche Bank, among others.
