Fátima Vaz

Maria de Fátima Guedes Vaz was a Portuguese painter born in Lisbon, in 1946, who passed away in 1992. In 1970, she completed the Painting course at the Lisbon Fine Arts Superior School. Her paintings, mostly abstract, showed flat and fluid colours in a formal movement play and the comprehension of the space was made through superposition and transparency, convoking the imagination and evading a fixed structure. She showed her work throughout her life with a first solo exhibition at 111 Gallery, Lisbon, in 1971. Some of her group exhibitions include: Quadrante Gallery, Lisbon, 1969, Alvarez Gallery, Oporto, 1970, Modern Art Gallery, S.N.B.A., Lisbon, Salão Verde, S.N.B.A., Lisbon, Alvarez Gallery, Oporto, Mobil Exhibition of Art, S.N.B.A, Lisbon, in 1971, Judite de Cruz Gallery, Lisbon and 3rd Salon of the City of Luanda, in 1972, Ogiva Gallery (Homage to Josefa de Óbidos), Óbidos and Prize of the 1st Biennial of New Artists, Vila Nova de Famalicão and, in 1973, 45 Portuguese Painters, in Barcelona.
