Marinella Senatore
Marinella Senatore (1977, Cava de’ Tirreni, Italy) graduated in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts of Naples, Italy (1994-1997) and she is a Master in Violin by the Conservatorio di Musica Domenico Cimarosa, Avellino, Italy (1997). She also studied at the National School of Cinema of Rome, Italy (1999-2001) and at the Universidade Castilha – La Mancha, Spain (2006). Senatore integrates her autobiographic experience in a multidisciplinary artistic practice, which includes the use of various media like film, photography, installation, sculpture, painting, drawing, collage and performance.
Through an artistic practice that includes the participation of the public, in which the artist invites the spectator to intervene in her performances, Senatore questions the dynamics and political structures of different communities, changing simultaneously the traditional roles of the public versus artist. In this sense, she searches a collective understanding of creativity, more democratic and participative, enabling a platform of collaboration and offering an artistic and didactic model of learning.
Senatore has a long curriculum of exhibitions in important art institutions, such as her participation at the São Paulo Biennale, Brazil (2020); The Centre for the Less Good Idea, Johannesburg, South Africa (2019); Villa Medici, Rome (2018); York Museum, United Kingdom (2017); Kunsthaus, Zurich, Switzerland (2017); Centre Pompidou, Paris, France (2017); Fundação Eugénio de Almeida, Évora, Portugal (2017); Peres Projects, Berlin, Germany (2015, 2012); Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2015); Künstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2012); Serpentine Gallery, London, United Kingdom (2012); Biennale di Venezia, Italy (2011); Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA (2008); Moderna Museet, Stockholm, Sweeden (2006).
