Fábio Colaço, born in Lisbon in 1995, is a young artist whose work is characterised by the use or recreation of symbols from the contemporary world to rethink and criticise, often through humour and sarcasm, their importance and established value. Since 2017, Colaço has developed an artistic discourse based on reflecting on the changing perception and value of money, as well as the unprecedented power it has exerted on the human imagination from ancient to contemporary times. - Tomorrow
, the title of a solo exhibition held in 2023, had as its premise a reflection on the state of the world and the panorama of uncertainty regarding tomorrow - the future - based on a trenchant critique of the capitalist system and its devastating consequences in today's world. - Untitled (No future),
the work presented in this exhibition, is a crystal ball whose surface has been worn away and is therefore opaque. Resting on a base and facing a mirror which reflects it, this sphere, associated with the idea of divining the future, cannot be read. This fogging of the surface serves as a metaphor for the uncertainty of the future, anchored mainly in the climate emergency we are currently experiencing, which, as the greatest environmental threat of the 21st century, deeply compromises the idea of continuity, prevalence and the future. This work simultaneously evokes a sense of pessimism in the face of the precarious condition manifested by the majority of the world's population and a warning that appeals to the collective awareness.
