Vera Mota, born in 1982, lives and works in Oporto, where she graduated in Fine Arts - Sculpture in 2005 and finished her Master in Contemporary Art Practices in 2008, both at Faculdade de Belas Artes. She concluded in 2006 a choreographic research and creation course at Fórum Dança. Mota is an artist whose practice is revealed mainly through performance, sculpture and drawing, presenting works in these different areas since 2002.

In her installations there is a performative dimension, as suggestion and potential for the pieces to be manipulated. The compositions are arranged taking into account the particular features of the space and the visitor's encounter with the objects created by the artist, which show a degree of systematic and minimalist order, superimposed by an almost accidental or erroneous gesture.

The artist has exhibited regularly since 2004, in Portugal and abroad. Of the individual exhibitions, the following stand out: Ventriloquismo at Galeria Bruno Múrias in Lisbon (2021), Ossos Flutuantes at the Centro de Artes de Águeda (2020), Diagrama at Galeria Pedro Oliveira in Oporto (2015), and Schema at Appleton Square in Lisbon (2012). She took part of the group exhibitions: Guerra como Modo de Ver at MACE in Elvas (2018), Variations portugaises at the Centre D’Art Contemporain de Meymac in France (2018), 10000 anos depois entre Vénus e Marte at Passos Manuel in Oporto (2017), and Aires del oeste at RO Proyectos in Madrid (2014).

In the field of performance, she also frequently presents individually and in collaboration with other creators, including in 2018 Curva Contínua at the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves and Head at EVA International Ireland’s Biennial in Ireland, in 2015 Afinação em lá 440Hz and Queda/Fratura at Galeria Municipal of Oporto; and in 2014 What is the color when black is burned? (co-created with Pedro Augusto) at SESC in São Paulo, Brazil. In 2015, Vera Mota was responsible for curating the Performance... Again!programme at the Teatro Municipal do Porto. Her work is represented in the collections of António Cachola - MACE, Ilídio Pinho, Centro de Arte Oliva - Norlinda and José Lima Collection and PLMJ / Lisbon.
