Rui Algarvio
Rui Algarvio was born in Barreiro in 1973. He graduated in Plastic Arts, Painting, between 1992 and 1998, at the Lisbon Faculty of Fine Arts, and completed a Master degree in Visual Arts – Painting, in 2002, at the Autonomous University of Mexico, as a grantee of the Camões Institute and the Secretariat of External Affairs of Mexico. In 2003, he was awarded the Academic Merit medal Alfonso Caso by the same university. He presently lives between Lisbon and the Alentejo where, in his studio, he transforms the landscape into painting. He’s been showing his work regularly since 2000, in Portugal, Spain, France, Austria, Costa Rica and Mexico. Some of his solo exhibitions include: Guadalupe, Arte Periférica Gallery, Lisbon, 2000, Meeting with Nuno Goncalves, Sala do Conclave, Palais Rihour, Lille and group exhibitions, such as Oscar Róman Gallery, Mexico City, 2000 or Between Words and Silences, Cascais Cultural Centre, 2021.
Rui Algarvio’s work is represented in various private and public institutions and collections, such as the Centro de Arte Contemporânea de Málaga, Fernando Figueiredo Ribeiro Collection or Dietrich Mateschitz – Red Bull Collection.
