This object is part of a vast group of works, made in the 2000's, in which volume is built through a logic of composition, and form, in the articulation and overlapping of wooden plates. The questioning of the values of sculpture is focused on the traditional procedures of addition, subtraction, construction, stacking, among others, and aligns with a permanent reconceptualization of the value of the plinth, the exteriority or “skin” of the sculpture, and its frontal condition. This object takes advantage of its own building process, oscillating between an apparent organic status, that its shape seems to indicate, and the industrial dimension of its material. On the other hand, it tends to delimitate a space that insists on not supporting its contention, as its double opening seems to confirm, and in the consequent relation between the interior and exterior planes, questioning, in parallel, the logic of sculpture as a closed body. At the same time, it overcomes any simulation of an excavation procedure, creating, as an alternative, a process of accumulation which, ironically and conscientiously, “deconstructs” the procedure of addition as a methodology of sculpture.
