Horácio Frutuoso
Horácio Frutuoso was born in Oporto in 1991. He presently lives and works in Lisbon. He graduated in painting at the Oporto Fine Arts Faculty where he completed the course, and was awarded the 2012/2013 Acquisition Prize. While living in Oporto, he was involved in various artistic projects such as Sintoma, Painel, or the Expedição project at the Maus Hábitos space. The practice of painting, poetry, typographic drawing, performance in daily life, all these are media that he uses in his artistic practice, exploring codes of language, social representation as well as the pictorial construction and destruction process. He’s been showing his work regularly since 2009, namely in the following exhibitions: Poetry Club, Serralves Museum, Oporto, 2019, Haus Wittgenstein, MAAT, Lisbon, 2012, Gender in Art: Body, Sexuality, Identity, Resistence, MNAC, Lisbon, 2017 or Black Dolphin in collaboration with Tiago Alexandre, São Miguel, Azores, 2016. In parallel, he frequently develops editorial projects, maintaining a regular cooperation with Teatro Praga, since 2016, and chancela Ed.__with Sistema Solar Publishers, since 2019. His work is represented in various private and institutional collections, such as the Art Collection of the EDP Foundation, PLMJ Foundation or the António Cachola Collection, and graphic works at the Artists Books and Edition Collection of the Serralves Foundation Library and at the Artists Books and Independent Edition Collection of the Art Library of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
