On an open balcony over the night, a rock emerges. This could be the beginning of a dream, in which a hybrid figure, both magnetic and unsettling, captures our gaze. This strange character, with a male torso, tentacular arms, an alien-like head, half cloud, half wing, over a thin and curled up neck, seems to celebrate alone, lost in memories of long, lost times. Such celebration has, however, something disturbing, not only because of the strange anatomy of the figure, whose mask has just fallen, but also because of the goblets with claws-like feet that seem to rise from a pool of blood. The transformation of these objects into beings is especially noticeable in the one that lies on the shoulder of the central figure, while letting out a hypnotic vapor.

A certain scent of - fin de siècle
unfolds in the background of the composition, where ladies in long dresses and parasols, stroll in the distance, wondering with ease in the inhospitable landscape. Away from the central character, these others stroll between the squalid legs of the former that are taken for elements of the landscape itself. As in a dream, the relaxed strollers move along the landscape never realizing they are strolling in the midst of an alien body.

Over it all, the black of the night, crossed by luminous areas that provide depth and texture, contrasts with the palette of reds and roses, giving the central part of the composition a fleshy, disturbing appearance. Yet, it is in this deep black with its somehow ghostly patches of light that we discover a huge and epic butterfly, hanging over the strange creature's head, but still within its reach, as an ultimate promise of flight.
