Weight-Counter-Weight

Three-dimensional works from the MACAM Collection
Weight-Counter-Weight brings together a collection of three-dimensional works from the MACAM Collection that explore different forms of balance, tension, and transformation in space. Organized around thematic clusters – nature and abstraction, scale and resistance, cities and urbanism – the exhibition invites reflection on the forces that shape both the built and natural worlds. Through references to architecture, urban expansion, and the dynamics of collective life, the works reveal relationships of conflict, adaptation, and permanence. The tension between materials, forms, and scales highlights not only processes of physical, social, and symbolic resistance but also how the observation of nature inspires exercises in synthesis, abstraction, and formal reinvention. Through sculptures, installations, and other three-dimensional works, Portuguese and international artists explore concepts of weight and counterweight that extend far beyond the material dimension of the works.
